Hey, hey, hey. Welcome back to Quianna Marie Weekly. I just got home from a retreat this past weekend. I had the opportunity to go see my friend Felicia, and all of the incredible friends that she had curated to be in this space for the weekend, and it was absolutely life changing. I wanna catch you up and share a vulnerable post, like a vulnerable episode today, and just share kind of like where my head is at, where my heart is at.
And lately I’ve, I’ve been in a funk lately. I’ve been feeling a little unmotivated, and if I’m being perfectly honest, I’m kind of having a Monica Geller moment after her wedding when she like throws those Polaroid pictures on the table and is like, Ugh. I guess I’m just a wife. And I say that with so much love because Mike and I are good.
Like we are more than good. We love our life together, and marriage has just been so much fun and it’s been really fun. Kind of like flowing into our routine and getting back to just daily life. We just recently got to go to a rodeo, right? Like we’re filling our weekends and experiences with family, which is fun things to do.
But there is a piece of me that. It’s kind of depressed that the wedding is over. Like I’ve, I’ve put so much love and attention to detail into planning this wedding. It typically takes a year or two to plan a wedding, but we pulled this through in about eight months. So from June of 2025 until our wedding date on Valentine’s Day 2026, it went by pretty fast.
And so with that like acceleration of just problem solving and making things happen and all of these incredible milestones and special memories, like it kind of just came like crushing to a halt. And so I’m like kind of sad. And so that’s left me in this state of feeling kind of sluggish, feeling like I’ve lost a little momentum and honestly asking myself like, what’s next?
Like, where am I going with this business? What am I continuing to do? And so this is when, so we’re around this time, Felicia reached out, she was hosting this Mastermind and I was on it. I’m just like, I have to be there. I know anytime I spend time with Felicia, I make money. I make new, new friends with entrepreneurs and various successful business owners that I just like want in my circle.
And so it was, it was great. It was a beautiful weekend. We got to experience breath work with Jess with the Healing Couple. We got to experience a tea ceremony with our new friend Jenny. Oh my gosh. My soul sister Christie Rogo, she led us through a sound bath and meditation. It was just so beautiful and one of my favorite things that we got to do, oh, and I can’t forget, Felicia also led us through Goddess Yoga, which was so fun.
Like, ah, it’s just so magical. And one of my favorite things that we did was hot seats. I love a good hot seat on, uh, masterminds and on like retreat weekends with other business owners. And the reason why I love these so much is because it gives us an opportunity to really dive deeper into each other’s businesses, learn more about us, right?
And how we tick and what’s working, what’s not. And then there’s always a beautiful ask at the end, which I love because you can straight up ask. Hey, I’m looking for reviews on my podcast. I’m working on this launch and you know, can you please like peek around the corners here and tell me what am I missing?
Like is there anything that’s been untapped or a different way to market this? Or how can I adjust my marketing rates? So. You know me, I’m an ideas girl, and I absolutely love when I can just pour into others and just give them a million ideas, and it’s very rare. I do have a very select handful of friends that do pour into me and give me ideas as well, but to be in the room with new friends, with fresh ideas and different hot takes on different ways to do things, like, oh my gosh, like I’m all in right.
We got to experience this beautiful retreat in the mountains up in show Low Arizona, and you have got to check out the new retreat house that Felicia and her husband just purchased. It’s called Victorian Lake House Retreat on Instagram. I am definitely gonna link that in the show notes because you’ve got to check it out.
It’s beautiful, it’s so peaceful and it definitely was the just a great location for us to get away. For today’s episode, I’m going to answer eight questions that I get all the time in branding, photography, and the, the mission behind this episode is not to convince you that, okay, trust me, you need a shoot.
It really truly is to educate you, right? Because like I said in the beginning, I’ve been in this kind of weird position of like what’s next, right? I’ve been chat GP Ting way too much lately on what should I be doing. And personally, I’ve been outsourcing my intuition. I’ve been kind of asking everybody what’s next, what they think I should be doing, instead of truly feeling locked in and like, and I’m like kind of clinking my bones together here, like locked into my own body, right?
After this weekend, I’m feeling so refreshed. I’m feeling that momentum and that spark picking up and one of the questions came through that I’m gonna start with today. Um, really put things in perspective for me and just made me realize, yes, like I do need to share a little bit more of this education.
On how powerful branding sessions really are. And then I, I just kind of, kind of steamrolled into, I should do a Q and A. ’cause I get these questions often, whether they’re in my dms or in person when I am meeting new business owners or we’re talking about a, a new launch or a new conference or a new event they have coming up and they’re telling me about all the fun things that they’re gonna be doing.
Then in the back of my head, I’m like, okay. And when are you booking that brand session? Right. So one of the things that I shared, and I just wanna like, like I said, I just wanna be vulnerable with you and just share what’s going on in my business currently. So one of the things that has been working, um, this is something that we, we went over in the hot seat, is the business owners that know what they’re doing, right?
They’re scaling, they’re growing, they’re expanding. When they’re ready for a photo shoot, they’re literally texting me like, these are my friends. Like, they’re not even DMing me. They’re texting me like, Hey, key. I need a photo shoot. Really the only hesitation or like friction we have is selecting a date on the calendar.
Because typically with brand sessions, we do have to juggle my schedule, their schedule, and then the studio schedule as well. That’s been working like they know like easy peasy lemon squeezy. We got it on the calendar, done and it just feels like kaching, like it just feels so good. And then what’s not been working is lately I truly have been feeling like I need to create.
The demand for brand sessions, like I mentioned before, like these, some of these business owners or you know, whether they’re beginners or they’ve been in the business for a long time and they’re telling me their plans and they’re gonna be launching something soon. And I’m like, yeah, okay. And when’s, when’s the brand session?
Right? And they’re looking at me like, I don’t know if I need one. Do I right? And I’m like, yes. Right. So I feel like that’s what’s been a little bit of a friction for me is like trying to explain and like overeducate. Where some people get it and some people don’t. Right? So like, how can we bridge the gap in that?
And I’m not just squawking here to share you like my own personal, um, you know, business needs and struggles right now. I, I really hope you can implement this into your own business as well. Right? So like, what’s the difference between the clients that are just like, heck yes, sign me up, done payment sent, versus some other people that are in your world that aren’t quite.
Making that move, right, that aren’t quite moving the needle, taking a risk and investing in you. So we’re gonna break that down in a handful of these questions today. And like I always, always share as you know, please take these questions and apply them to your own business as well. I’m definitely speaking to a lot of entrepreneurs of all kinds.
Um, but you can make it your own. So let’s dive right into these questions. Number one, this came from Jess, who is part of one half of the healing couple. Her and her husband Corey are incredible breath work facilitators and trainers. And, you know, throughout the, throughout the retreat, uh, she was kind of dropping some hints that yes, they’ve been thinking about a brand session, but also they’re not too sure.
Right. And so I really use this as an opportunity to think, okay. I’m not trying to sell to her, right? Like, I’m not trying to like, oh, pick me. I don’t want that pick me energy. But I just kind of wanted to like learn from her, right? So one of the questions that came through when it was my turn for the hot seat, um, she asked, do I really need brand photos when everything is about reels and video right now?
Okay. So I was blown away. With the room defending photos. Before I could even chime in, everyone was saying, oh my gosh, yes, of course you need them. You need photos for headshot, sales pages, and all of your marketing. It felt so good to sit in a room with entrepreneurs that understand the value of brand photography.
Yes, social media platforms are favoring video. The sounds, the expressions, the emotions, voices, and pure personalities coming through, right? All those trends and all those fun music clips. I mean, of course, like they’re trendy, like they’re, they’re fun, right? I like to think of video content as king and photography as queen or vice versa.
Whatever you think sounds better, right? They’re both equally important, and this is why I do offer both photography and behind the scenes video clips. So you get a little bit of both photography and video. Okay? But for real, photography is a powerful tool to document your history, curate your business, and align yourself as the expert.
It feels like an outfit you get to wear as first impressions are so important as your photographer. Of course, I’m gonna share the importance of a brand shoot, but I’ve been a business owner for over 20 years, and I’m here to tell you that they’re both needed to grow scale and build your business. So I just, I really love this question because this is something that I have seen a lot where people have booked videographers over me, right, for certain situations, and I, I truly believe that they are both valuable.
So as long as you have your bank of photos to continue feeding your social media, continue feeding your website, all that magic, like yes, like there’s, you need both. Like you absolutely need both. Okay, so another question I get a lot, number two. What if I don’t feel ready yet? This is one I hear all the time, and you may be thinking, I need to lose weight.
I need better branding first. Right? I need to invest in that branding. I need more clarity. Or maybe you’re thinking I don’t have the funds to invest in the stylist for a whole new wardrobe of fresh hair and nails and makeup and all the glam is intimidating. I get it. You don’t get ready and then book the shoot.
The shoot is what helps you become ready. You know that girl on TikTok that has that one recipe that’s now a staple in your weekly dinner plans? Imagine if she thought she was too fat to post and we never got to see that life-changing recipe that gets your kids to eat chicken and veggies. You know that realtor that helped you find the perfect home and school district for your family?
Imagine if she hated her voice and never made reels. You know the photographer that takes the most beautiful wedding photos, emotional, candid, and timeless portraits. What if she only told her friends about her work at coffee shops and on walks without ever posting on social media? How would any newly engaged couples find her?
Okay, now let’s flip it and put you here. In these scenarios, what are you holding back on? Do you have any insecurities, fears, or hesitations that are making you question if you’re good enough? None of us are perfect, but we’re sharing our stories and passions and offers. Anyway, stop hiding and consider a brand shoot so you can be seen, celebrated, and hired.
All right, number three. What if I don’t know what to do in front of the camera? I’m awkward af and need help with posing. Okay, so I completely understand why we fear the awkwardness, right? But this is where I love to come in. It’s not your job to know what to do. It’s my job to direct you, pose you, and bring your personality out before every shoot.
I start with a little grounding exercise. This is so important because I know how hectic and busy and stressful all the planning and everything goes into just preparing for that day, right? I mean, I’ve literally had. Business owners that have gotten tickets, like actually a speeding ticket on their way to a brand session because they were running late and they were just so stressful.
Like imagine having that energy balled up in the studio or at our photo session like, okay, we just need to like take a deep breath, right? There’s just so much going on and so one of my favorite things to do is just plan a little grounding exercise, set some intentions. Take some deep breaths, maybe even pull affirmation cards.
So if I’m getting a vibe that you would enjoy the woo woo, like, um, affirmation cards, right. Um, just fun decks. I’ll pull those out and, uh, yeah, like it’s just a great opportunity to pause and remind each other who the f we are, why we’re doing this in the first place, right? It’s just so important and so I love guiding you through posing.
Through, um, natural movement. I will absolutely tell you where to put your hands, where to look, what to do, how to pose, so you feel your best. Right? This isn’t about trying to look as skinny as possible or to just like look like some someone or something that you’re not to be taken pers like seriously.
It is an excuse and it is an opportunity for you to truly shine through and you’re only going to get to that point if you feel comfortable. So that’s why I love walking you through things. I love being your hype girl. I love encouraging you. And one thing too, I was thinking about this this morning on my hot girl Walk with the girls, is I was thinking, you know what builds that confidence in a photo shoot And for me.
I’m a yapper, like I’m telling you, like, yes girl, like you look good. Like I am Absolutely that cheerleader for you. But there I take it one step further and I’m actually like adjusting. I am touching your hair. If anything is out of place, I’m either physically doing it myself with permission or asking you to fix your bra strap, right?
Like I, I am actively like touching and like manhandling you with permission Of course. What I’ve noticed, that’s what really does boost that confidence because you’re not just, you are not standing there feeling awkward, like, I don’t even know what I look like or what’s going on, or, you know, like you just, that’s what feels awkward is when the photographer is directing you, but you don’t actually feel like you’re being directed, right?
Like you’re just, you know, just someone’s there being a sound machine, just saying how beautiful you look and you’re like, okay, cool. But like, what could be different or what could be changed, right? And so I noticed that as a huge confidence booster with me and my clients is. I am directing them and I’m gently posing them to feel their best.
Another thing that I love to do is I love to create scenarios or like thought bubbles in their mind, right? So. One question. I’m just like a little side question. I just got from my friend Judy, we’re planning our shoot for, um, this spring and she asked me, she’s like, okay Keith, I really love to do, um, those like serious photos, but I’m such a happy, smiley person that I just start cracking up and I just, I hate those photos of me because I look like I’m smelling a fart or I look like I just like, just look ridiculous.
And so I told her ’cause, or she asked, what can I do to practice for these serious photos? Right? And so I, I thought about it for a second and I’m like, okay, here’s, here’s the trick. Don’t look in the mirror. Like don’t practice looking in the mirror and making those serious faces. ’cause you’re just gonna feel ridiculous and you’re just gonna start laughing.
So instead, what I encourage her to do is to take out her notebook. Or go on a hot girl walk. ’cause that’s when a lot of my ideas come through. Or maybe even in the shower. Think about it. Think about all those moments in your business or real life. Like this could be a conversation with your little sister or with your, with one of your kids, right?
And I want you to think about a moment in time where you thought, mm-hmm. Told you so, like, I really wish you would’ve listened to me. Right? Or like anything that you are super confident in. Think of that moment. Think of that story or that experience that happened where you were like, mm-hmm. Like, I know.
Mm, yes, I know. Like, thank you. Like I told you, or there’s something that you were just so justified in that you were like, this is it. Like this is the answer. And so when you can think of those scenarios, here’s what’s gonna happen. Your facial expressions are going to make that face for you. So instead of focusing on like how to not smile or how to smize with your eyes or you know, what to like, how to purse your lips like Mary Kate Ashley, right.
Like whatever, like whatever little tricks you’ve heard before. Right? That’s what’s really helped for me is thinking about those moments of like, what’s going on in your mind? And then, y’all know, I can’t, most of us, especially in the creative and entrepreneur space, like. We just, we, we know, we talk with our faces, right?
Like we, we, we just say things with our eyes and our expressions, and so I would start there. So these are the fun things that we get to talk about and help prepare you for your photo shoot, right? I’m not just like throwing you to the wolves here. I’m not just letting you fend for yourself. I am here as your guide, as your photographer to help curate these moments for you.
Okay? So that was like. Three A and three B. Okay, so let’s roll on to number four. What will I actually get out of a brand session? This is when you’re thinking, okay, is this really worth it? Is this worth my time? Is this worth the money? Like, what am I actually getting? Here’s the deal. You’re not just getting photos, you’re getting a content library that works for your business every day.
Here’s the thing about planning a brand session or launching something new. I hear all the time. About how many business owners feel sleazy, annoying, or salesy, it’s awkward for them to ask for the sale. Now, there’s a ton of nervous system regulation we can do to help with that, but in my opinion, planning to branch shoot is the easiest way to build hype, boost curiosity, and get some buzz around your new offers or upcoming events.
Think about it, okay. Planning to branch shoot can create tons and tons of content. Sharing the planning process, picking out outfits, collaborating with a hair and makeup team, shouting out vendors and other businesses, the studio photographer, content creator, and everyone helping to bring these visions to life.
Every little detail from before the shoot, during the shoot, and after the shoot can help fuel a ton of marketing material to help promote your next offer. It’s basically today’s version of billboards and news articles or ringing your bell with a sign, right? But on social media, launching anything without a brand shoot may feel like old news, dusty or fall flat without the hype and excitement.
So yes, you’re getting more than just photos for your brand shoot. You’re building hype for your brand. Your confidence goes through the roof. You’ll fine tune your offers with clarity and literally get more eyeballs on your business. All that curiosity of your shoot backed by the right messaging can turn those looky-loos into future customers, clients, and students.
If your dream clients don’t know you exist, they can’t work with you. Booking that brand session is literally the easiest way to promote something new. And I want you to think about that. Okay? Like, have you looked at anybody on my feed, like in my stories? Or have you seen other businesses that have invested in a brand session and you’re thinking, Hmm, what?
What’s going on? Like, what are they, what are they doing over here? Like, what’s for sale? Or do they have something coming up? Right? I naturally think that most of your audience is gonna think that as well. And they may even be doing that, like subconsciously, right? Like they’re not. There may not be in that like sales and marketing brain like a lot of us are, but they may just naturally be doing that.
Number five, how do I know if I’m at the right stage in my business for a brand shoot? So the quick answer is if you’re booking clients, if you’re growing, if you’re ready to be seen, then yes, now is the time. If you’re making money but not showing up consistently, that’s your sign. I know in the beginning it feels like you’re lucky to be breaking even, and investing in a brand shoot feels daunting.
But there comes a time when you look at your content, your website, and your marketing materials, and think, okay, it’s time to look legit. So many business owners are thriving. They’re passionate about what they’re doing, and they know they need to invest to share their value and look legit. You’ll know you’re ready for a brand shoot when you have income coming in and you’re tired of playing small or feeling like you’re getting passed up or overlooked.
If you’ve been in business for years and feel stagnant or kind of like you’re just coasting, having fresh headshots and lifestyle images for your brand can help breathe joy, professionalism, and confidence into your online presence. Typically, my clients invest in full brand days, quarterly, or at the very least once a year.
This keeps their content fresh, updated, and feeling elevated. This is why I started Lucky 13 quarterly mini brand days to help business owners stay updated and connected with other business owners locally here in Arizona. My next Lucky 13 is June 13th in Phoenix. Check out the show notes, my link in my Insta Bio or DM me the word lucky and I’ll shoot over the details.
I say When you are thinking about it, you’re ready. As soon as that curiosity sparks like, oh my gosh, like that looks like fun. Or do I need one? The answer is yes. Right? Like that’s kind of just always been my thing, and I’m not just saying that because I’m the photographer that obviously wants to get hired.
I really truly am saying that from a business standpoint, that if you have that inkling or that interest and you’re thinking, Hmm, am I ready for a brand session? Yes, the answer is yes. My love number six. What if I had photos taken before and they didn’t really work? Most brand sessions fail because they focus on pretty photos instead of strategy.
So I wanna, I wanna dig a little bit deeper into this question and I wanna ask you what didn’t really work? Was it that you didn’t like yourself or how you looked in the photos? Did the images not align with your brand? Did you even really post them and share about them after the shoot? I’ve seen it over and over and over again where business owners go full, send on a brand shoot.
They share some behind the scenes and B-roll clips, update their profile, pick and share a couple re-share stories from their photographer, and then crickets. Their gallery is like a content library graveyard of a never before scene, photos and B-roll clips to fix all of this for future shoots. This is why I love to strategize and truly create a game plan for your photo shoot and business.
When we take the time to plan ahead, fine tune your visions, align your colors, vibes, offers, and personality. With all the details of the shoot, it’s inevitable that your shoot will work for you. It’s when you plan to just show up, look as skinny and as hot as possible, and not really understand how these photos will be used.
That’s when it becomes a waste. Your brand shoot will help you book clients when you have clarity in your offers. Your messaging is on lock and everything feels and looks aligned together, we go over all of that for your next brand shoot. All right, number seven, is a brand session really worth the investment?
If your photos help you book one or even two dream clients, they’ve already paid for themselves. And guess what? You know that saying take a picture. It’ll make it last longer. Your audience will be staring and they’ll be watching you. And these photos last forever. Yes, I’ve always encouraged updates as you continue to grow, expand, and reach new levels.
But the beauty of your brand session is that they last forever, and now you have the ability to be in hundreds, if not thousands of hands at once. Well, you know what I mean, on people’s phones as they scroll. I love to look at investments in more ways than just dollars and revenue. Brand Sessions help connect you with other business owners for future referrals.
Your shoot will help bring in future clients that feel even more future referrals, right? The investment could be your confidence, not just with these photos, but how you walk into every room in the future. Your shoot will take you from looking like a hobbyist or like your business looking like a passion project to a full fledge professional business.
As your photographer, of course, I believe it’s worth the investment because it works for me a couple times a year, and my clients have seen so much success. Like my bestie Felicia Romero, after one of our brand sessions, she launched a six figure launch using our photos in content. Check out episode number 1 53 6 figure launch with Felicia Romero.
Now, if that’s not an ROI, I don’t know what is right. I’ve had friends release bestselling books, sell out retreats and conferences from our brand sessions. Now, as always, I am never taking credit for their hard work and success, but I am here to share their brand sessions fueled all of their marketing and promoting.
So yes, the investment is worth it, but it’s only worth it when we make a game plan and you actually follow through with sharing your photos and maximizing the session. That’s something, like I said before, we’ll go over, right. We will customize it to you and your business. All right. Number eight, what happens after the shoot?
How do I actually use all of these photos? My goal as your brand photographer is to not just deliver pretty photos, but to help you actually see the ROI on your time investment efforts and creativity. You’ll never sit there thinking, what do I post again? I don’t know what’s going on, right? No. Your branding gallery will be filled with professional photos and behind the scene content.
They’re packed with gems to update your website. Now, when I say website, I don’t just mean like a headshot, right? Your hero images about me pages, client experience moments, testimonials, service pages, your contact page, hidden pages for your clients. Literally, your entire website can be updated with your brand.
Shoot headshots that fuels your social media with carousels, stories, polls, posts, and reels. You have endless ideas to add to your feeds and social media platforms. Your marketing will be on lock with fresh sales pages, PDFs, freebies, email marketing, digital offers, and future invitations to events and even podcast covers.
Consider the millions of pins you can create for Pinterest. Think of your photo gallery as a library and a resource to help launch your messaging, stories, experiences, and all of your copy, right? You have a lot to say. You are sharing, you’re selling daily, you’re going to need photos to help actually promote those, right?
We’re not just updating our email signature over here, we’re using these images to promote market and prove our value. Okay? So those are the eight questions that I get all the time. And I have one closing question because you know me, I can’t just do what I say. I have to like add a little bonus. I wanna close with this question for you today.
What is it costing you to not be seen right now? What is it costing you to not be seen? I can tell you all about missed clients. Missed visibility. Missed growth opportunities, right? The longer you wait, the longer your dream clients are hiring someone else. And I, I want that to sting a little bit, not because it’s like a money thing, but because clients that are praying for you are investing in someone else that’s just not as good as you.
Right? Like I, I don’t wanna sound like a third grader when I say that, but it’s true. It’s like we need to stop playing small. We need to stop hiding. You have what? It takes my love. You have the skill, the expertise, and all of the experiences and results to prove that you are the best. We just gotta share it.
Remember, content and marketing takes time. If you wanna book out an upcoming event for this fall, we need to be planning your brand shoot now in the spring. This gives you all summer and fall to promote and sell tickets. Think of your upcoming goals for future quarters and plan accordingly. We can’t be booking brand shoots and launching at the same time.
We need to prime our audience, educate, build hype, and create a runway for your launch. So please, please, please, please, please stop hiding. I hope these questions have brought on a little bit of clarity for you. If you’ve been kind of on the fence thinking about it, thinking about investing in a brand session, I’m your girl.
I would absolutely be honored to work with you to dive into your business, find clarity in your offers. And really just help you feel confident online and in real life as your photographer. I’m here to support you. I’m here to help you grow through every season. Whether that is a new pivot, something else you got going on, like I just, I can’t wait to hear about it.
So if you are considering a brand session, please head over to my Instagram @quiannamarie and DM me the word brand. I would be so happy to send over some information and really just start chatting like I wanna send, like I wanna hear a voice note from you. I’ll send you a voice note back and we can start talking about location ideas.
