Review the Transcript:
Okay, let’s get started with a confession. There was a season of my life, and I’m sure you can relate where I worked from home. I lived in leggings, dry shampoo, was doing the Lord’s work. And honestly, I needed a reason to shower and to actually do my hair, like a real reason to get out of the house. I loved my business, I loved my clients, but when you work from home, days can sort of blur together.
You don’t always leave the house. You don’t always put on real pants or a real bra, and some days the only human you see is the barista at the drive-thru. For me, until Mike came home, I would talk to the girls, I would talk to my dogs, but uh, that was pretty much it, right? This is how Lucky 13 was born.
Lucky 13 literally gave me a reason to get out of the house, to get dressed, to show up, to be around other business owners and bounce ideas. To create again, what started as something I needed for me turned into one of the most powerful offers I’ve ever created. So today I’m sharing all about Lucky 13, why it exists, how it evolved, who it’s for, how it got its name, and why.
I truly believe it’s one of the smartest ways to stay visible, confident, and booked without burning out. Whether you’re a small business owner that craves more visibility, or you’re a photographer considering offering these mini braiding sessions in your hometown, similar to your seasonal family mini sessions, this episode is for you.
If you’re joining us on your hot girl walk, busy editing, doing chores around the house. I am so thankful you hit play to join this conversation today. Whip out your notebook or make sure to take a peek at the show notes in case you need to reference anything. Let’s break down the Power of Lucky 13 and how these shoots are some of my favorite days of the year.

Alright, let’s break down the very beginning of these. Many content days. Lucky 13 wasn’t brought to life from a spreadsheet. It wasn’t created with the launch plan. Literally, I had no idea what I was doing. It was the answer to feeling blah and wanting to make a change. That was it. Back in 2023, I was spending a lot of my time working alone.
I was missing community. Craving creative energy after the crash of 2020. Events were starting to pop up, but a lot of hosts and events were taking it slow. Many people still were unsure about hosting large events. I needed a community friendships and connections more than anything. Plus, on a business level, I was wanting some sort of membership or subscription based model without the pressure as a projector and a Sagittarius.
I love my freedom. Committing to something with no end date. Insight felt so intimidating and like I just couldn’t even get it started. It was, it was just too much. It was too much pressure to start this membership. I didn’t know what that would look like. Right. I kind of went back to the basics here, where it’s like, what did I want?
What was I looking for? And it sort of evolved from there. So I wanted a space where business owners could show up as they are, get fresh photos and fun B-roll clips. I wanted them to feel confident again, right? I wanted them to remember their power. I wanted them to feel confident in their own skin and to be surrounded by people who get it.
Personally, I wanted a day that felt fun again, lucky 13 became this beautiful blend of content creation, community momentum, and even accountability because when something is on the calendar, you show up craving fun things on my calendar and creative shoots to look forward to. If I was feeling this way, I’m sure others were feeling that way too.
I wanted a reason to pull out some outfits in the closet I never wear. I craved the opportunity to talk to real business owners and turn those Instagram friends into real life friendships, especially coming off of 2020. I had a ton of people that I was connected with, or I met briefly at events, or maybe they were just completely online friends.
They were local. But I’ve never had the opportunity to meet them in person. I wanted to actually hug them, right? Like I wanted to actually spark those friendships with my background and decades of experience working with families for fall and seasonal mini sessions. I knew there was something like that missing for business owners.
Not just a glam day to get hair and makeup done and pose for a couple headshots, but bringing women together to chat about their goals, swap insight on what’s working and what’s not with their business, and truly to be there to simply connect and to remind us all that we’re not alone. I remember attending mini brand days in the past with other photographers, and the photos were phenomenal.
But I remember briefly meeting someone before my shoot and arriving as my shoot was wrapping up and thinking, oh my gosh, I’m so happy to meet these ladies. But wait, where are they going? I’m so sad that either I gotta go, right? So as I was first attending and unpacking, of course, I’m early everywhere, like I would see these like incredible business owners, people that I have maybe either.
Just met or wanted to meet and get to know more, they would be wrapping up their shoot and then it would be my time, which is fantastic. I love that time. And then someone new would be coming in and I’m like, wait, hold on. I wish I could hang out with them. And I wish I could capture B roll and all the behind the scenes stuff and just like hype them up.
Like I didn’t wanna leave. I had the afternoon, I was already dressed and I wanted to hang out with them. Right. I had tons of ideas for what this could look like. Was this a monthly membership, something that my clients could bundle together? Maybe an annual fast pass to grab as needed. The thought of tracking everyone, although I’m sure there’s technology and ways to do that, it just felt like a nightmare, right?
Like I was not dealing with punch passes for my business. I wanted Lucky 13 to feel well lucky. I wanted it to feel abundant, fun and creative, not another checklist of things to do. When I started Lucky 13, it was a monthly meetup, but over the last four years I realized, you know what, A handful of my clients would pop in every time, and the majority of the business owners would show up every other month or even just two to three times a year to get fresh updates.
I loved the monthly touch points, but then I thought, could we maximize this shoot and round everything up to a quarterly event. This will be the second year I’m rolling out quarterly shoots and I fricking love it. It gives everyone time to actually use the content they use, offers tons of variety and allows us all to set some intentions and plan for a creative shoot without just showing up and going through the motions and checking that box.
Right. These quarterly shoots are basically the sweet spot, and I love it. Let’s chat about what Lucky 13 is and also what it’s not. Okay. So Lucky 13 is not a chaotic mini session day. It is not rushed. It’s not staying here. Smile. Next pose. Move this. Oh, get outta the way. Excuse me. Like there’s not all of that like crazy tension going on, even though there is a lot going on.
So instead, lucky 13 is a quarterly mini content shoot. It’s a curated experience. It’s a room full of motivated business owners. I love to say that I’m a magnet for high school group project leaders, right? We’re the ladies that take initiative, have big goals, and get things done. These Lucky 13 days are a great chance to update your content without overthinking it.
Perfect for the advanced and well seasoned business owner that’s been in business for a while, but needs to stay relevant and top of mind on social media as well as a beginner in business that is ready to invest in a branding session, but loves these pop-up of mini brand aids to test out styles, vibes, and develop your personal branding without feeling like a big commitment to one day to get it right.
I love to highlight my friend Jill Dench and her impressive creativity for every Lucky 13. For every location Jill arrived in creative outfits, new styles, and fun expressive ways to truly share variety for her personality. I’m gonna have to make a post about her. I think I’ve done it in the past, and I know I have posted her in the past, but I’m gonna have to resurface that just to share that it’s not that serious.
Right? It’s fun. It could be creative. I know sometimes when planning your branding session, it can be very taxing on, oh my gosh, like this is the impression that I want to leave on the world, right? This is my first impression, my lasting impression and our outfits and our style really does say a lot about us, right?
So we wanna get it right, but this is what’s so fun about Lucky 13, is that we have so many different opportunities to. Create that variety and really create this personal brand as you, as a whole person, not just your business, but as a creative entrepreneur that you are with all the many facets of your life.
So my goal with Lucky 13 while we’re shooting is to help you with direction, with posing help. Tons of encouragement. I am literally your hype girl and biggest cheerleader in photos that feel like you. We’re not just cheesing to look thin and look like a boss, babe, right? We’re talking through your intentions.
So when you look back at your photos from this shoot, you can be reminded of your goals and what matters most in your life and business. This quarter. There is nothing more powerful than setting those intentions and baking them into those photos. So when you look at them, when you post them, when you share them, you can be reminded on that goal that you’re working towards.
And the energy in the room. Ooh, oh my gosh. It gives me the chills. It’s literally magic, right? There’s laughter, there’s hype. There’s that feeling of, oh wow, I forgot how good this feels. And I know as business owners, sometimes we get caught up in the day-to-day maintenance of our business. Sometimes it’s refreshing to be in the room with new friends, to introduce your business to, and old friends to help hype you up and remind you how awesome you are, what you’ve accomplished, and celebrate what’s next in your business.
Right? Like sometimes I think we get in our little shelves, right? Maybe that’s our home office or sitting at our kitchen table and we forget how fricking awesome we are, right? Like, and I say that like as I have a slice of my humble pie, but I love facilitating and curating these spaces where. You can introduce yourself and people can actually look at you and go, wow, like, that’s amazing.
Right? Sometimes we just have to hear that, and if we’re not showing up and putting ourselves in these rooms, like where else are we gonna hear that? Right? We may see some comments, but we know that those are special and we appreciate every single one. But hearing that in person, especially from someone you admire or someone new that you’re excited to develop a friendship with, like that is something that we will remember for the rest of our lives.

So let’s dive deeper into the shift from monthly to quarterly mini branding content days and why I decided to go from this monthly popup to a more intentional quarterly event. So here’s the big evolution. Lucky 13 used to be monthly, and it was amazing, but I noticed people needed time to actually use their content.
They weren’t just adding folder after folder to their galleries. They were encouraged to actually post their B-roll and their photos. So with these quarterly shoots, it really helped everyone that was coming to align their business with seasons. Okay. So there was actually things to look forward to here.
It helped fuel their launches. They had a better grip on what they were currently offering and what was ahead that they could promote, build hype for, and actually fuel those launches. It gave everyone space to integrate those photos, right? Like I said, like they weren’t just like creating this huge bank and then worrying about their next outfit and their next content day.
They were actually utilizing them and putting them to work to help them actually get that return on investment. It helped for these quarterly shoots to feel really intentional instead of overwhelming. So this shift helped my community plan content ahead, get ahead of the game so they knew exactly what they were doing, exactly what they were looking forward to.
It refreshes their brand without panicking about outfits, styles, and vibes, and truly helped them stay visible all year long. This shift wasn’t about doing less, it was about doing things better. Okay, so let’s chat about who Lucky 13 is for. Lucky. 13 is for you if you know you’re legit. You know you’re good at what you do.
You’re tired of generic stock photos that everyone else is posting, and you want content that feels aligned and personal to you, not trendy. It’s for coaches, healers, creatives, service providers like photographers, wedding vendors, realtors and local business owners who want to be seen without performing.
And honestly, it’s perfect if you’ve been thinking, I know I need a brand shoot, but I’m not quite ready. Lucky 13 is the gateway. It’s the first step to working together to get a taste of what a full branding session working together will look like. If you could knock out this much content with only 13 minutes of you in front of my camera, imagine how much we can accomplish together with a full brand day.
Lucky 13 gives you a slice of a full experience with me, right? And you’ll walk away thinking that wasn’t scary. Oh my gosh, that was so easy. I actually love being photographed, right? You’re gonna think, wait, I want more. Can we just hang out all day together? And here I am, over here saying, um, yes. Heck yes, please.
Many lucky 13 clients go on to book full branding sessions. Because once you feel supported, seen, and confident, you realize you’ve been ready all along. Let’s chat about what you actually walk away with because I love the Wooo. I love the vibes, I love the confidence, but I also love the tangible ROI, right?
Like I know that when we work together, not only will your confidence skyrocket through the roof, whether that is that confidence in person and that confidence with shining online, but let’s chat about what you actually are walking away with. The tangible ways that your business will make money and create connections and opportunities.
From one lucky 13 mini content day, you’ll get fresh images. 13, by the way, updated profile photos, content for social media, website, refresh material, email marketing visuals, right? These are the tangible digital assets that help fuel your visibility online, your next launch, new offers, and anything to help market and promote yourself.
That’s not even mentioning the real humans and business owners. You have the opportunity to connect with, possibly pitch, and stay connected with. When I say pitch, I mean I’ve had business owners swap info and work together. After Lucky 13, I’ve connected realtors to new local families. Moving into the area.
Coaches have linked up and handful of podcast interviews and swaps have been sparked from Lucky 13, right? So that’s what I mentioned, the pitching, right? So this is the best part, right? We are always trying to get on another podcast. We are trying to get our name out there, share our business. How fun is it to look at the girl next to you and be like, wait, you have a podcast too?
Can we do a swap? And sometimes it aligns, sometimes it doesn’t. But the opportunity is there and I cannot forget all of the behind the scenes and B-roll moments. You’re walking away with months of content in just one day. So much mileage for your marketing and social media. It just can go on and on on forever.
You’ll leave feeling refreshed with shiny new content, but also a ton of confidence and a pep in your step to remind you that you’re exactly where you need to be and you’re supported for what’s ahead. Now that you’re feeling the vibes and getting a glimpse of the magic behind Lucky 13, I do wanna chat about more logistics, why it’s called Lucky 13, and what you can expect for the flow of the day, because I do try to keep it short to a two hour window for my busy business besties.
So why Lucky 13? Let’s start with luck. Well, my dad has always taught me that the harder I work, the luckier I get. That’s something he used to always say as an entrepreneur himself. My dad was a roofer. He worked hard to play hard, and I remember being a little girl thinking, my dad was always so lucky. He always got the best parking spaces.
Anytime he went to parks, like national parks or anytime we needed to pay for parking, someone would walk over to his truck and hand him the parking pass because it was already paid for, and that family was leaving. Like literally he got so lucky and I’ve seen my dad do that before. I remember him walking up to cars and handing them our ticket thinking, why is he doing that?
Right? My dad would do that often too, but I feel like it happened to him more often. Green lights were always in his favor and he always made every situation more fun and memorable in my eyes, even though he became our guardian angel almost 28 years ago. I’ve always considered my dad lucky. When I was thinking of names to call these content days, I didn’t wanna just call them mini brand days, although, if I’m being honest, I’m sure that would’ve been way better and way smarter for SEO and searches online, I really leaned into the idea that if you want your business to thrive, if you want others to know about you and your offers, at the core of everything you need to show up.
You need to be seen in person amongst your peers and other local business owners, but also online too. I love the idea of creating a reason for local creatives to show up and get lucky. Lucky in their business. Of course, let’s make this luck for our lives and business contagious. I know from experience that we’re all just one friendship, one connection, and one conversation away from changing our lives.
I wanted to host events that were that powerful. As far as 13. 13 is my lucky and favorite number. My birthday is December 13th, the same as Taylor Swift, and I love the connection between hosting these popups on the 13th of the month, including a 13 minute shoot and delivering 13 photos. If you’ve ever been to Lucky 13, you know I way over deliver, but I also love the idea that each shoot would be different and create luck for everyone a little differently.
Maybe you’ll walk away with a podcast interview connection. Maybe you’re the only one to show up, and we can spend the entire time together taking more photos, B-roll, and brainstorming your next launch. Yes, that happened and I am so thankful that my client was feeling very lucky to spend that extra time together focusing on her business instead of making me feel like a total bust for only selling one ticket that time.
Right. I’m telling you, I have the best humans in my community ever. Sometimes I invest in really expensive studios and Airbnbs for us to create, and sometimes I support local coffee shops and local businesses. You never know who you’re gonna meet, and you never know what you’ll learn or what will come from your next lucky 13.
Sometimes I even provide lunch, right? Like it’s always a lucky environment for us to feel supported and celebrated, just like Daddy always taught me. You have to show up for the luck to find you. I love to segment my lucky 13 days and have a little agenda so everyone knows what to expect. I understand that not everyone can stay the whole time, but I love to give you a heads up of what you can look forward to and really to show you what you’re missing out on.
Okay, so I typically plan these mini brand days as two hour events and love when everyone can join as soon as we start. Once everyone arrives, I love to start with the circle time for everyone to gather, share about their business, and sometimes we pull affirmation cards. I say sometimes because literally I just forgot this last lucky 13 for January, and that’s something that I totally regretted, but it’s okay.
It worked out perfectly. But I love these affirmation cards to spark conversations and to hear what’s ahead in your business. Maybe it’s my past of being a preschool teacher, but I love a good circle time. I try not to put you on the spot, but it is a safe space to share about your business, practice your elevator speech, and even talk about your new offers.
Anytime we speak in front of others, it can feel a little nerve wracking, but I love the chill vibes surrounded by others that get you. That’s where the connections and friendships are actually sparked. Then once we begin, I love to grab everyone individually to capture their quick 10 to 13 minute shoot.
We walk around the space, pop into corners that you love, and create a ton of variety within that short amount of time. This last shoot, my bestie Tara had a request to please collab and have other humans in her shoot to help market her coaching and consulting part of her business. Having a handful of business owners at the same place at the same time, makes these types of shots possible.
Shout out to Jillian for opposing mat. She’ll get those photos too to use for her marketing as well, and it’s literally a win-win for everyone, right? So maybe that’s something that you need in your business where you have a ton of headshots, things are current. You feeling like you’re looking good, your photos represent you, but maybe you need some more people, like you need some more coaching clients or just clients in general in your, in your photos.
So this is where we can do it. So while I’m photographing these individual shoots, I love to give prompts and encourage everyone else to use the space to capture B roll. They’re welcome to grab a new friend, pair up or set up a tripod to record a ton of B-roll clips. Some of my clients will pop in for circle time, enjoy their shoot, and then bounce, which is totally okay.
I know we’re all busy. I know we have really, really crazy lives, but I love this portion of creative time that’s already on your calendar to be intentional and actually record more. B roll. You’re already dressed up, feeling good in a really pretty space. Let’s record those mundane tasks like typing on your laptop, reading a book, sipping your coffee, opening and closing the fridge, or anything that feels annoying to record in public.
Or that you forget to record when you’re alone and you’re busy working, right. Use this time to generate as much content as you can following your shoot. I tell everyone that they’ll have their gallery back within one week and try my hardest to have their galleries delivered even sooner than that. Each client has their own personal gallery of their photos, as well as a drop of B-roll or write to a shared folder on their phone.
I love when clients come back every quarter because their folders in their gallery keep growing. I have a record for my friend Felicia, Felicia Romero, that has over 35 different branch shoots, events, and mastermind galleries that she can access with her one link. Imagine having an entire bank of images and B roll clips right at your fingertips.
Oh my gosh. That would be a dream for your social media manager, your podcaster, promoter, right? Like any type of content creator that you have on your team, they would absolutely die to have access to that gallery, right? So these shoots are meant to be quick and intentional and curated to meet the needs of your brand and content that quarter, and what you’re working on towards the next quarter.
This is the beauty of quarterly shoots. You can have fun with them without stressing about outfits style and personal branding looks that feel like they define you right? We can mix it up with our limited time. We only have time for one outfit, although it can be flexible with ripping the sweater off to reveal a tank top or a shirt underneath.
Getting creative with popping a blazer on and off, or arriving with your hair down to toss up into a messy bun, adding your glasses and maybe a coffee cup with that kind of cozy vibe, right? See what I mean? We only have 10 to 13 minutes per shoot, so we gotta make it count with easy swaps. As far as what to wear, you’re welcome to literally wear whatever you want.
I’ve had clients show up in ball gowns. Outfits they would wear on stages for speaking events with sparkly blazers to more casual jeans and sweater vibes, summer dresses, or even everyday leggings and sweaters to share the everyday hustle and busy mama vibes. I encourage everyone to feel like themselves, only maybe a little polished version to help feeling a little bit more elevated and sparkly.
That’s totally okay. Right. When we work together for photo shoots, the mission isn’t to be someone you’re not or to be taken seriously, right? I want your audience to see, feel, and trust the real you. If you live in sweatpants and a top knot while answering emails and coaching on Zoom, then let’s capture that.
If you’re pitching yourself to be on more podcasts, then let’s capture the best version of yourself while still feeling true to you and your style. Like I mentioned before. This is the beauty of quarterly shoots. You can map out what’s coming ahead, create a ton of variety, and test out the locations and vibes you love that align with your brand.
I’ve had clients swoon over locations selected, and I’ve also had them pass because that particular location didn’t jive with their brand, and that’s totally okay. Whatever you do, do you and be yourself. That pretty much sums up the vibes of Lucky 13, and I would absolutely love it for you to join next time.

Also, a big shout out to floes, by the way, for making my email list, wait list and reaching out to my subscribers a breeze.
I am so grateful that when I send out new announcements and launch like, uh, releases for Lucky 13 or any of my other photo shoots, whether that’s for. Content days, mini sessions for families. Anytime I send out that email, I get paid. Like I literally sell tickets to my events and that would not be possible without flow desks.
So make sure to head over to keana marie.com/flow desks. That’s QUIA, NNA marie.com/f DESK to sign up and get started today. One of my big goals for 2026 is to grow my email list. So let’s start there. I’d love to have you join. Now I wanna shift the conversation to photographers or anyone considering hosting these mini brand days for their business.
I’ve had the honor of collaborating with lenders, realtors, and even hairstylist to collab for headshot days, and I fricking love those too. If you’re a photographer listening, this is your sign. Mini brand days like this, right? So like whether you wanna model a lucky 13 or host your own mini marathon day.
They literally are life changing for me. They create cash injections, they help build community. They lead to bigger bookings, right? Like I said, it’s just a quick little taste of what it’s like to work with me, and oftentimes my clients will upgrade to a more, more personalized and larger branding session, and it positions you as an expert.
For me, lucky 13 works because it’s intentional. It’s experience driven. I love my community. I love bringing people together, and to me that is almost, I don’t wanna say more powerful than the photos, because the photos are where it’s at and like the B-roll clips. But I would say that making those friendships and those connections are just as important as the actual deliverables.
And then of course, there’s strategy, like there’s strategy behind bringing people together, showcasing your business. Being a thought leader and a host and a curator of these experiences. Oh my gosh. It’ll make you go so far. Right. And I just wanna remind you too, you are allowed to create offers and events that feel fun, that feel aligned, and also make really good money.
There’s a ton of ways to adapt this offer to your business, possibly making it a membership or a subscription base. Good luck with that, and if you have experience with that, please let me know. For me, I love a good drop in. For me, this consistency and this pick and grab as needed really works and builds some recurring income for me.
I can bank on throughout the year. That right there, that’s gold. That makes me sleep at night. It helps me know that I have fun things to look forward to, and that’s what works for me in my Sagittarius projector life. I am so grateful for these shoots and how they’ve impacted my business. To this day, every single Lucky 13 has brought a new face into my world and into my business, and I would never have met some of my best friends in the industry if I kept waiting.
I have big goals to bring Lucky 13 to the Bay Area near my hometown, and to continue to offer these many shoots that lead to more personalized and intentional brand days. If Lucky 13 has been on your heart, if you’ve been waiting for a sign, if you’re craving new content, new energy, and a reason to show up.
Oh, this is it. Get on the list. Grab a spot. You belong in the room because your business deserves to be seen, and honestly, you deserve a reason to shower. Get dressed and feel excited again, I can’t wait to see you at the next one. And if you’re ready for more, you already know where to find me. That’s a wrap on another episode of Quianna Marie Weekly.
