11 Things Your Wedding Photographer Wishes They Could Tell You
1. RELAX!
You will be the only one to notice if something isn’t perfect! Enjoy the moment and let things unfold as they go. Nothing will play out exactly how you imagined and that’s the beauty of it! Your day will be surrounded by your favorite people, good food and fun music! Allow yourself to let loose and enjoy it!
2. IT’S ALL ABOUT THE DETAILS, BUT NOT REALLY
Your photographer is going to want to play with as many details as possible! Ex: Rings, invitation suite, vows, your shoes, perfume, etc. If you have special heirloom trinkets grab them! Just don’t stress out about yard sale hunting patina plates or fancy ribbon. Those are all sweet details to add, but keep them genuine to things you love that help share your love story and the essence of your day! Also, at the end of the day centerpieces, desserts and the flower girl’s dresses are sweet things to enjoy, not stress out about!
3. COME UP WITH A SAFE HAIR STYLE JUST IN CASE
Nervous about rocking an updo? Considering adding a braid to your look? Trust your styling team, however as a “big sister tip” consider a back up option for hair that feels natural and most like you. Bad hair days really do exist and your wedding day is not an option! In case your hair just isn’t feeling right like you practiced during your trial keep a back up option in mind just in case! This helps save time and reduces panic!
4. SHARE THE DRAMA
We have zero judgment for dysfunctional families! Let us know what’s on your mind for family formals, historical drama and any surprises. Maybe your cousin and your sister had a falling out, but they both adore you? Let us know. Maybe your fiance’s parents haven’t seen each other since his college graduation? Tell us! Maybe you’re freaking out that your sister and best friend are having a hard time sharing MOH duties? Girl, tell us! There’s nothing we haven’t seen before and want nothing more than for you to feel comfortable + happy the ENTIRE day!
5. JUST PICK A LEG!
According to the Garter Girl it doesn’t matter which leg your garter is on! In fact, it’s probably best to snap some photos slipping it on while you’re getting ready then taking it off and asking a bridesmaid or your wedding planner to stash it until your garter toss at the end of the night!
6. Mangia! Mangia!
Make sure you eat real food and drink plenty of water in between sips of bubbly. For real. Make time to eat a light breakfast, big lunch and nibble on as much food during your reception as possible! Ask an aunt or bridesmaid to be in charge of ordering and picking up lunch for both the girls and guys!
7. KISS LONGER THAN YOU THINK
Soak up that first kiss and add a leg pop or dip! It’s going to go by in a blur, so keep smackin’ longer than you think! Most ceremonies are predictable to know when the kiss is coming, but sometimes officiants get nervous and rush this part! Totally normal, just lock lips a bit longer than natural for some epic first kiss photos!
8. EMBRACE THE JUST MARRIED EXIT
Walk extra slow up the aisle once you’re announced officially married!!!! SMILE BIG + take your time moseying down the aisle!
BONUS: Pause in the middle and go for one more dip kiss! The crowd will go wild and it extends this moment even longer! Just don’t forget to keep your head up and smiling!!!
9. HOLD BACK ON THE HARD A
It’s always a good idea to pace yourself in the alcohol department during the day! Save slamming shots until after your cake cutting! I mean I promise we’re not being judgy… do you, boo! We just want to make sure you have more than just beautiful photos to remember these sentimental moments during your reception.
10. WHO CAN WE ASK FOR HELP?
Which is the best groomsmen/uncle to ask to help bring all my equipment back to the car at night? This isn’t something photographers will ever ask… but we wish we could! Often times our cars parked far away and with tons of light stands and heavy stuff it will be amazing to lug things out with one trip!
11. GET OUT THERE AND DANCE
Yes, make your rounds to thank everyone for coming, but don’t forget to rock out and be the LIFE of the party! The most fun receptions include the best dance moves and letting loose on the dance floor! Share a couple must play songs with your DJ, but trust them to read the room and keep the vibe fun and entertaining.
Hopefully these help create an unforgettable experience for your special day! Don’t forget to share this with a friend or recently engaged coworker!
XOXO,
Quianna
