Growing up in Almaden (South San Jose) everyone knew everyone. Mother’s supported each other, ran the suburban taxi’s back and forth down Almaden Expwy, and cheered the loudest in the stands for our sports teams. From the beginning of time we proudly wore blue and gold and stuck together like an extended family. When Dakota asked me to photograph her senior portraits I was more than excited to capture this monumental time in her life! Our families have known each other since grade school and I was honored she selected me out of so many talented local photographers.
What struck me the most was that she will be graduating from San Jose State University, the same college I earned my B.A. in Photography! It was surreal to be back on campus, on location shooting a photo session where it all began. Reflecting on this session reminds me that it’s important to find your passion, never stop educating yourself, and never forget your roots. After all, it’s your roots that anchor you down and support you to allow you to fly.
Congratulations, Dakota! We are all so very proud of you and wish you the best of luck!
