Hey, hey, welcome back to Quianna Marie Weekly. I am so, so happy you’re here. Whether you’re on a walk at in a gallery, or sipping that lukewarm coffee that’s been reheated three times. Mm-hmm. I see you and I am sending you the biggest hug. Today’s episode might feel like a little cut chick, but also a huge sigh of relief because guess what?
You don’t need more followers. You need more proof.
Proof that you are shooting proof that people love working with you. Proof that you are the real deal, not just posting when you have time, but building a business that people can trust. I remember a few years back when I was totally obsessing over Instagram growth, and I’m not gonna lie, anytime I leave an event and I see my numbers grow just a little bit, it does feel good.
So I’d wanna wanna mention that first, that like this is normal. We have very normal feelings about growing and hitting those larger follower counts, but I would legit hit refresh on my follower account like it was going to change my life. You know what actually filled my calendar? A mom tagging me in a post from her session, sharing the behind the scenes of her post, sharing her outfits, sharing how excited they were to work with me, a client sharing the behind the scenes photos in her stories.
A friend telling a friend, like, in real life, “You have to book with Quianna! She makes you feel so comfortable and helps you look your best!!” It wasn’t the followers that booked me, it was proof, and that’s what we’re diving in today. Let’s get clear. Proof is not bragging. It’s evidence. It’s showing you are shooting consistently.
You take care of your clients, you create transformations, you deliver a one of a kind experience. People want to see what it’s like to work with you before they ever click book now or invest any time or energy with you and your business. So if you have been hiding behind your logo or waiting for the perfect time to show up online this, oh, this is your sign.
Your business doesn’t need more followers. It needs evidence that you’re worth following. If you’re thinking, okay, I’m in. I hear you. I know I could do better. We are showing up online, but I don’t want to, I don’t have time. And if you’re having this like Tinkerbell energy of like, I don’t have the energy.
I’m too busy. I’m running a business with so many hats that I cannot add content creator to my plate. I can’t, I won’t, I don’t want to. And you’re just like crossing your arms, stumping your feet in your little, like Tinkerbell glitter is like puffing around, right? Like I get it. Now, I’m not here to tell you what you should do, how you should think, or how you should run your business.
That’s a lot of shoulds and I hate that kind of energy As your photographer, intuitive content coach, business bestie and podcaster, I am eager to share the things that worked for me 15 years ago and are still working for my business today. Side story, commercial break. Please be wary of online coaches that have huge success from, I don’t know, 10, 15, even 20 years ago, specifically pre 2020.
If those strategies are not currently working today, just be wary of that. I am here and excited to share my experiences for growth, expansion and making genuine connections with the right people. The root of all of this has simply been sharing the work I’m already doing. This is not a secret. I mean like it kind of is a secret, but it shouldn’t be.
This is something that we should all be doing, especially, oops, sorry. There was that shit again. This honestly is just a tool and it’s free. Social media is free. It just takes your time and a little bit of strategy. B roll is a modern day testimonial without words. I’m obsessed with behind the scenes content.
AKA proof on video. It’s like the hack. I’ve mentioned this before on the podcast before. It literally is like the fast pass at Disneyland. Okay? Like, let’s get you to the front of the line. By being visible, by building that brand awareness and becoming the only option for your clients. It’s the, I see it, so I believe it moment.
When your audience sees you confidently adjusting lighting, laughing with your clients, directing, posing, and walking into your studio or packing your bags, all the things right, they instantly get a sense of your vibe, your energy, and your passion. Okay. That’s proof. B-roll shows your energy, your professionalism, your personality, your process, all of it.
And here’s the thing, clients don’t need to hear you say, I’m amazing. Look at me, hire me. They need to see your magic in motion. That’s exactly why I created my digital course. Bloom with B-Roll. It’s your roadmap to capturing, organizing and repurposing behind the scenes content that actually sells your experience.
Not just your photos, your house, your haircuts. Your dog walking skills, uh, your branding, your websites, whatever it is that you are working on in your business, in your brand, it literally does the heavy lifting for you because when you show proof, you don’t have to convince anyone to book you. They just get it right.
You’re not feeling salesy, you’re not feeling annoying. You are simply showcasing the work you’re already doing. Oh, oh my gosh, I get so passionate about this. Imagine working with a dream client and capturing snippets throughout their client experience, sharing the beginning, middle, and the end results of working with you.
Not just getting their holiday family session photos back, and not just getting the keys to their new home or the big reveal of their hair transformation. Insert your brand and business here, right? You get the point. Sharing the in between moments that make you not just the expert, but the only choice in your industry.
You are the expert, my love. You have the credentials, the experiences, the heart, and the grit. But if your dream clients can’t find you, you’ll continue to be a hidden gem. You know, I love a good list. Let’s chat about three types of proof you can capture right now. I know I talk a lot about capturing versus creating content, but we don’t have to blast our entire life online.
With these built-in strategies to help build trust and instantly prove your value, you’ll start looking at content and social media differently, I promise. So let’s break down these three easy categories, okay? Three types of proof you can capture right now. Number one, process proof. This is where you’re showing your workflow.
The goal of this is to build trust and show that you’re consistent, organize and care deeply about your clients. Okay? Like think of the entire process, right? An idea that you can be posting for this is sharing a quick time lapse of you prepping your camera bag, laying out your memory cards, clearing the lenses, okay?
And here’s the kicker. This is your message, or this is your caption. Okay? You see a 20 minute mini session. I see 15 years of prep planning and passion packed into it, right? And literally, right, like there’s, there’s the thread line. You’re packing your bag, you are packed with education, with experiences, planning, passion, all the things.
Just recently I had an opportunity to do a huge generation shoot Family. Honestly, I feel a little bit taken advantage of because they should have bumped up to the generation shoot. They just booked like an hour long session, which was fine. I was able to get it done in like an hour and like 15 minutes.
I probably could have cut it off right at an hour. But we were having fun and some of the younger girls had requested photos. One of them wanted to hop in a tree. And then this other cutie little boy wanted a picture by the fence, right? And so anytime a child is asking me for more photos, I’m sorry, I’m that auntie I, I’m that future mom.
I will always say yes to taking more photos. But anyway, when we got home, I, you know, I was talking to Mike about it and I told him I was a little bit disappointed. I should have charged more. And he’s like, babe, you just made $500 an hour. Like, that’s incredible. Like, you should be so proud. And I’m like, yes.
And. I delivered a $500 shoot for each family within that hour. Right? Double sets of grandparents. There were three immediate families. Okay? So I’m looking at that from the perspective of other, the photographer thinking that could have been like a 1200 to $1,500 session that I just did for like a quarter of the price or a third of the price, right?
And so I just wanted you to keep that in mind that sometimes we have to get away from that hourly. Pricing because we are packing so much more education into that, right? So not to go down this rabbit hole, but in that moment, right? I was juggling emotions. I was dealing with step grandparents, stepparents that needed to be in some photos, some without, right?
Like I kind of was like playing the air quote, bad guy. Um, requesting specific images because one of the daughters wanted some photos. Without the stepparent and you know, some with and some without. So like that right there. That deserves an Academy Award for being able to juggle those emotions, being able to speak clearly, be able to act very fairly, and just being kind by still being very assertive.
That comes from experience. Okay, so sorry, that was a huge tangent on pricing and knowing your worth, but those little captions, when you add that messaging and those words, those are powerful, right? So you can also share a clip of you, um, choosing client outfits and steaming dresses. This is where you share in the caption.
Yes. I’m the photographer who brings a steamer because confidence starts before we even pick up the camera. Right? So I’m not bringing a steamer to sessions. I, you know, have worked a good steamer on wedding days, um, helping bridesmaids seen their dresses. Okay. I want you to insert what makes you different, right?
Do you have like a Oh shit styling kit that’s packed with safety pins and tide sticks and boob tape and ribbon for anything, right? Like how are you prepared for your session? Document that. Show your editing, setup your candles, lit coffee nearby, headphones, adding final touches before delivery. Okay? And your caption for this could be, if you’ve ever wondered what goes into your gallery before it hits your inbox, here’s the love behind every click.
I don’t think people are posting about this, right? Like they may be sharing their calling like status or like their cue about, you know, I’ve seen that so many times and there’s definitely a love hate relationship with photographers about sharing who’s next or. Who’s coming up soon? Um, in your editing queue, and I have different thoughts on that too, let into my dms if you wanna chat about that.
Are people actually seeing the heart that goes into it? One thing I used to do before every single wedding, and I still do, I just haven’t been shooting as many weddings as often is. I actually pray for my couples before the wedding day, right? It’s from a space of love and unity and the sacred act of marriage, of love and protection of their day, of their, of their marriage.
I would bake those prayers into the photos, and that’s something that I think I made a TikTok on this once and it blew up. I shared it once on my Instagram and I had so many past couples reach out to me sharing, oh my gosh, Kiana, I didn’t know you did that. Right? And so I kind of shared it honestly as an afterthought when in reality that could have been a deal breaker or like a huge win for a client that also believed in those beliefs and wanted to specifically work with someone like me.
Okay. Stop hiding behind these ideas or these everyday moments. And then of course, I love a good voiceover idea. And you can share, this is what professionalism looks like behind the scenes. And you may not see in the feed, but this is where your photos become magic, right? So like I said, we may be working on these curated feeds and putting our best foot forward, but then sprinkling your personality, right?
Like I love those. Those posts where it’s like, this is who it looks like you’re emailing and it’s like your headshot and then you are literally in your sweatpants in a top knot. Or like for me, for example, I would be in the middle of the woods, like with no service and with my dogs and you know, Mike, just living our life, you know, off the grid.
But this is your proof in the pudding, right? You are not just talented, you’re reliable, you’re thoughtful, and you have a repeatable process that clients can trust. This is your process. Okay. I can really go into the details of different ways to make you you. But here’s the thing, since nobody is posting this type of content, nobody is, and I say nobody very, very loosely here.
I mean, there are photographers that are doing this, um, and business owners and brands, but because. The pool is so small. I know that people are just shouting on the internet right now, and it feels like it, that everybody is just, you know, look at me, look at me, look at me. All this flashy content by you simply showing up and sharing the work you’re already doing, that’s trustworthy.
So that was a long number one. Okay. Number two, sharing all about these proof strategies. Share the experience. Proof, okay. Show the energy and what it’s like to actually work with you. Okay. So the goal for this is show the feeling of working with you. This is where your warmth, your confidence, and the client care shines through, right?
The attention to detail. Okay, so this is where you might be capturing the laughter, the high fives in between giggles, right? So if you’re photographing your family mini sessions, you’re sharing a little baggy of gummy bears that are like held hostage by mom, bribing the kids, right? Like, like, you can’t fake that joy.
This is what it feels like to be seen, celebrated and photographed by me, right? Like it’s getting that gummy bear after having a successful shoot, right? But once again, right, like you’re tying in this experience, you’re sharing how you are the expert and how you make things run really smoothly and parents can count on you to take these beautiful photos that they’re excited about, that they not just invested in.
I know a lot of times this is a huge investment for families, not just booking that session, but then Amazon priming the outfits, picking up new shoes for the kids. Sometimes moms are invested in hair and makeup, like these are, these are big investments. Okay. This isn’t your like two, three, $400 mini session.
Like these can be upwards of thousands of dollars. And that’s not even including ordering the family cards, right? That’s not even including the Christmas cards. Okay. And the stamps. Stamps are expensive. Okay. Sorry, I’m going on a tangent. This is where you’re sharing that proof. Okay, so another idea you could be capturing is a clip of you giving direction, right?
Chin up, deep breath. Perfect. That’s it. One thing about me is I am constantly talking like I am a chatterbox behind my camera when I’m photographing my clients. I love being the hype girl. I love sharing this and. One thing I’m always saying is don’t forget to breathe because I don’t know what it is. As soon as I say that, everyone in the photo is just, oh, thank you.
I forgot. Right? Because they’re just focusing on smiling. They’re focusing on sucking in their tummy, whatever, like they’re focusing on their arms and just trying to look their best. I’m literally reminding them to breathe right. A caption with that could be, most of my clients start nervous and end up feeling like they could model for Vogue.
And this is true. I have seen this before in front of my lens happens, before my eyes, and especially in boudoir sessions. I love a good boudoir session. When the women look at me and they’re so nervous, I dunno how to pose. And then once they get the music going in about, doesn’t even take five minutes.
It’s like just a couple of. Photos, a couple poses into the session and they turn into this goddess, right? Like they just like, they just feel it and they’re like, oh, like this. And it’s like, yes, queen, right? And so I wanna document that, right? I wanna document that experience where they feel so confident.
So another idea could be to share post session hugs or clients cheering as they look through the back of your camera, right? Those are my favorites. So one time I had an opportunity to second shoot a wedding with a friend here in Arizona. She’s a photographer here, and we were up in Strawberry and I was second shooting for her.
So I took a ton of B-roll for her and just behind the scenes clips to airdrop to her later. And one of my favorite, favorite video clips is her taking her iPad over because she does same day reveals. I don’t know, she maybe had a dozen photos that she had already edited, had up on her, on her little iPad, and she was behind the couple, showing them the same day edits and the expression.
And you know what’s crazy? The bride’s face was, I mean, she was beautiful. She was excited, she was happy. I don’t know if it was her sister or her best friend who was the maid of honor who was sitting right next to her. She was losing it. She was theatrical, she was crying, she was sharing so much exaggeration for it because she was excited for her, you know, for her bride, for her sister.
And I just think that is so powerful and I got that on video and I am not even kidding. Oh my gosh. Like that video pops up all the time, and I am so, so grateful that it’s being reshared. This is it, right? So when I say I am your biggest hype girl, I mean it. We laugh, we dance, we capture your essence, your magic, all the things.
Okay? That would be a great caption for something like that. And then as always, a voiceover idea. I don’t just take photos and insert, I don’t just sell homes. I don’t just walk your dog. I don’t just do your hair. I help people see themselves differently. That’s the real experience. That right there just gives me the chills because that is the essence of what I do, right?
Like I love photographing humans so that I can share with them how I see them, which is beautiful, which is radiant, which is worthy, which is just all those warm and fuzzy feelings, right? Like we are worth being photographed and documented in this timeline. Okay. Here’s the proof, okay? You don’t just take pictures.
You create emotional, empowering, and fun experiences that people remember long after the session. Because if we’re just focusing on taking tic-tac sharp photos, delivering that gallery, slapping it together with a bow, hitting that published, you know, link for their. That’s it. Like, right? Like come on, like we want this like five star experience and something that is gonna last a lifetime.
Those memories, right? Those core memories that you’re creating with your client experience. Then number three as another proof strategy. Show me the results. Okay, these are results, proof, share, and show the transformations. Okay, so the goal of this strategy, this is a social proof that seals the deal, show the end result of your magic.
Not just the photos, but the impact they create. Okay, so here’s some fun ideas, story ideas, prompts, content ideas. Okay, so I love a good before and after shot. Okay, so share the raw photo and then click to the edited image, right? Like it’s, I love a good before and after. Okay. And share that glow up. Okay. A caption you can have for that is, this is why I do an I do not to change you, but to show you how stunning you already are.
It’s really not about like editing their face. We’re not like face tuning people’s faces, but we are taking that raw photo and just adjusting the lighting. We’re sharing that glow up right like that before and after, and that’s where you as the artist can shine while still being really true and authentic to your clients and your subjects.
Okay. I love a good client testimonial. Voiceover, right? By using real dms or emails with permission, of course. So share those screenshots. Okay. Like there is social proof, babe. Okay. So you can share little quotes or text messages or email responses, right? Things that say like, I’ve never felt this beautiful before.
Or my website traffic doubled after our shoot. Right. Whatever that is. Right? Or maybe if you’re a realtor and it’s, oh my gosh, I can’t believe, like I, I did this right? Like, I have a safe home for my children. The ideas are endless and they just start flooding. Okay. So like, let’s get this out. Okay. Show the happy tears, the first look at a gallery, someone gasping.
Oh my gosh, that’s me, right? Like this is when you’re in person and you’re sharing that back of camera. Set up your tripod and capture that response. Okay? So a caption idea for that could be that moment when your client realizes the woman in the photo is her, the version she’s always wanted to see, oh my gosh, like, hello?
Like, that gave me the chills, right? Like, how are you captioning these things, right? Like I say, yes, let’s focus on capturing B-roll and the messaging, the copy, the words you’re using, that’s what sells, right? And all you’re doing is just explaining what the heck is going on in that B-roll clip. Another idea is post about final galleries being delivered, framed prints or reels of clients hanging art on their walls.
A good caption for this would be proof that your photos aren’t just files, they become family heirlooms. So once again, you’re actually creating fomo, literally FOMO for your clients to share, Hey, I’m not just giving you these like digital images that you can post on your stories, and they could just float away in the clouds.
We wanna be able to create tangible portraits that are going to be in your family for generations. The proof angle, okay? Your word creates lasting transformation, confidence, visibility, and pride. That goes beyond just the pretty pictures. Start mixing these into your weekly content. Okay? Let’s whip out your content calendar and start dripping these ideas so you know what to post, when to post.
How to make your clients fall in love with you and be so eager to work with you before they’ve even met you. Even if you just post one short clip a week, that’s 52 pieces of content proving you’re in demand. So Lefty real for a second. Okay. The algorithm is moody. Likes don’t pay our bills. And those viral moments, they don’t always translate to sales.
But you know, what does becoming the local favorite? Trust, connection, local, dependable referrals. That’s why your small, loyal audience can outperform someone else’s huge, quiet audience. You don’t need 10,000 strangers around the world. You need a couple hundred local people who see your proof and think, she’s my photographer, he’s my coach, they’re my person.
Proof builds proximity, and proximity builds conversions. Here’s the business brain part. I love going over a little bit of like the psychology behind this, okay? Because humans are wired to look for safety. We invest where others have invested. It’s called social proof for a reason. When your followers see, wow, she’s shooting every weekend, oh my gosh, she’s got another client testimonial.
His clients always look so confident. It removes the fear of working with you and booking with you, and investing with you. They stop wondering, is she legit? And start wondering when’s her next opening, or, I’m saving to work with them, so let’s make this tangible. I love some homework for you. I love a good challenge and like I’ve mentioned before in previous episodes, I love a good dare because I feel like anytime I hear that someone is daring me to do something, guess who’s gonna do it.
Right? Okay. So I dare you to record five seconds of every shoot. You do every client experience touchpoint. Just create five second videos, okay? Challenge accepted. Show your gear, your coffee runs, your prep days. Use B-roll to tell micro stories. Talk about the why behind your work. Share results on repeat.
It’s not bragging, it’s marketing. I sometimes just wanna like punch you in the face and I say that with so much love. Let’s rephrase that. I’d love to just give you the biggest hug. Remind you that you’re not bragging. You are marketing. Okay? Like you are the best. You know it. I know it. Sister. Like, come on.
We gotta share it. We have to prove it. Okay? And I don’t like the word prove it. I’ve gone over this before. We have to share it. And if you’re thinking, but Kiana, I don’t even know what to capture or how to organize at all. That’s literally what bloom with B-roll is for. I’ll walk you through step by step.
Through capturing, organizing and posting this content without feeling glued to your phone or losing the joy of your art. Make sure to check out keana marie.com/ b-roll. That’s Q-U-I-A-N-N-A murray.com/b ROLL. That’s B-roll without a hyphen. Check out my Instagram, check out my links, all the things. But that is where you can find a free guide to get started with a hundred easy B-roll ideas for business owners.
And of course that will lead you to the Bloom with B roll course. Okay. Like it is there. It is already. And I’m just so excited to share this with you because I do believe this is just like marketing 1 0 1 for business owners. It’s so easy, it’s so easy. It’s such an easy way to market your business and it’s time for some big sister love.
You’re waiting for more followers when you already have everything you need to grow. You have clients who love you. You have the camera. You have your story. What you’re missing is proof that it’s happening right now. So start showing it. You don’t need permission. You need presence. And if you need a little accountability or guidance, let’s chat.
I offer intuitive content coaching calls. These are one-on-one sessions where we map out your content strategy, brainstorm reels, prep for your shoots, and align your marketing with who you actually are. Yes, like I said, I can repeat this million times over and I’m so sorry if I sound like a broken record over here, but you’re already doing the work my love.
We just need to share it because I promise. When you learn to show up as yourself, your business blooms. Before you close your laptop today, I challenge you capture three clips of your process this week, post one BTS, or behind the scene moment. Ask a past client to share a testimonial or selfie with your work.
Review your highlights. Do they prove your expertise? Okay, so go through your highlights. And take a peek at those. It’s time for a refresh. I am even guilty of that. I need to go back and do some cleaning house. Okay. Proof stacks up over time, and each piece of proof is a seed that grows your business. Now I love a good recap from today’s proof strategies.
Okay, so a number one process proof show your workflow, setting up lighting, prepping props, picking outfits, editing, sneak peeks. This builds confidence that you are professional and consistent. Two, experience, proof. Show the energy and what it’s like working with you. The laughter, the hugs, direction, comfort.
This shows what it feels like to work with you and creates the best FOMO energy. Get your clients dreaming of working with you. And number three, results proof. Show the transformation side-by-sides before and afters, galleries, frame prints your clients crying. Happy tears. This proves you deliver.
Document the entire client experience, but don’t be too quick to move on to the next client without showcasing the work you’re already doing. Also, on that note, social media isn’t truth day. It’s a marketing tool. Yes, we’re being honest and trustworthy by only sharing our work, but it really can be a highlight reel, so use that to your advantage.
I feel like people always say, Instagram’s a highlight reel, so don’t take it so seriously. You don’t play the comparison game. I want you to flip that and ask yourself, wait a second. If it’s a highlight reel, how am I showing my highlights? Right? Like, let’s use this to our advantage, right? Reshare and repurpose your content.
Dig up shoots from last year and projects from the past. Pretty sure Taco Bell only has like seven ingredients. They’re always switching up their menu, bringing back flashback, menu items. Be like Taco Bell, be shameless in your ads. Right? Like they hit those late night munchies. They know their audience.
Okay, so show up and be like Taco Bell. It’s okay to talk about the same ingredients. Just served up differently. Okay. Plus it’s okay to constantly share your work, even if you’re traveling with your family, sitting on the couch doing nothing but resting. And that’s not nothing, by the way, from past episodes, and thank you to NATA for reminding us that it is a growth strategy to rest.
So I wanna drop that in there, of course. But, uh, no, I mean, like, if you’re working on other client work, if you’re just doing anything other than what you’re sharing online, it’s okay. It’s a marketing strategy. Okay. Show that you’re in demand, valued and open for business. Don’t let your busy season hold you back from booking out your next season.
