Welcome back to the shine online series for wedding photographers. Now that you have a bank of content, and the camera roll on your phone can scroll for days highlighting your recent wedding. What are we supposed to do with all of these random videos and behind the scenes photos? I know it can feel overwhelming. So I wanted to bring us back to the heart of behind the scenes.
Why are we doing these in the first place? I promise it’s not just to make you have more work and to add more things to your plate. Remember, you’re adding so much value to yourself, your brand and your business. Let’s start sharing them and getting creative. Your couple is going to cherish these clips for ever. They’re like modern day family videos that our dads took over their shoulders with the camcorder and you know that little timestamp on the bottom left corner. Those are the videos you’re creating for your clients today. I know they’re with their phones, and I know social media is involved. But literally, that’s what we’re trying to create for them. Plus, the vendor, team and venue will forever be grateful for these clips too. It’s seriously a win win for everyone. Let’s not go on and on about the fields.
Let’s take action and make a game plan for your social media and reels. Welcome to Quianna Marie weekly, a podcast for creatives who love to celebrate wins, big or small by dancing in the kitchen photographers who are excited to serve their clients and friends who are ready to chase really, really big dreams. You can find all of the resources mentioned in this episode at quiannamarie.com/podcast.
Join me as I share with you motivation, chat about growing pains, finding genuine connections and celebrating your wins through the lens of a photographer at heart. Come join me for a dance party ready loves though.
In case you’re just hopping on the dance floor now, it’s important to remind you that I’m never posting videos live. Never ever, ever, ever.
Not only do I not want to look like I’m texting on the wedding day or have you my eyes looking down in case I miss something right in front of me. I’m super big on safety and privacy. It may look like I’m putting my life and weddings and business on glass for the entire internet to see.
But I’m really intentional about my safety and the safety of my clients, which is why I never share anything in the moment. I typically don’t share a wedding highlight until 24 to 48 hours after the wedding. Not only do I want to make sure that once I start sharing the venue that everyone is wrapped up and gone. But it’s also a sneaky way to gain a ton more views and boost engagement like crazy. Okay, I want you to think about this.
During the wedding, some of the wedding party may be Snapchatting and sharing photos. But hopefully most of them are in the moment, the entire guest list may be more focused on posting instead of scrolling on the wedding day. So they’re not looking okay, maybe there’s some guys and maybe there’s some ex girlfriends that are just scrolling.
Okay, you get the point. But give them time to settle after the wedding and then light up social media. Okay, now that my conscious has cleared a little bit trying to keep you and your clients safe, but also reminding you to Hey, do you boo, like honestly, I don’t care. Um, you can run your business however you can. But that’s just like my big sister moment coming out. Let’s crank out a ton of ideas to help shine online after the wedding. I’m going to break down these tips into sections so it doesn’t feel overwhelming. Each of these sections could be broken down literally into a gazillion ideas for content creation. Think of your highlights in stories, reels, tiktoks, and even YouTube videos that can be utilized with these content ideas.
There are so many platforms and different types of social media. But these concepts will work with any piece of content that you share. Alright, so number one is the wedding highlight. This is when you’re literally just making a recap post of the day. I love gathering about eight to 10 video clips or behind the scenes phone pictures to share many stories throughout the day. If you refer to episode number 78 I crank out an entire day of content creation during the wedding.
I suggest grabbing about five of those checkpoints and sharing online. With each clip I love sharing more about the couple sentimental moments, DIY hacks, emotional stories or any laughs throughout the day. With the couple in mind I always try to make this wedding highlight about them. hyping them up and sharing their story without making it about me.
My hope is that they see these clips to relive their day as a guest viewing their wedding and not just their photographer. key tip. I always always mute the sound from the original video and add music or just leave it silent. Unless there’s like a super cute and sweet sound clip and it’s worth sharing. There’s nothing like sharing a sweet gift exchange with a couple and having a bridesmaid talking about which wedding guests are single in the background like let’s be super cute. are about what we’re sharing my loves.
So the wedding highlight, keep it simple. reference your notes of the day and post it within 24 to 48 hours so it’s fresh on your mind. Make sure to tag vendors include couple, like include their social media handles with each post and keep it classy friends.
Now I have something else to add, I have my notes that I’m reading off of for this for today’s episode, but I want to include that I’ve seen a lot of photographers posting, like sneak peeks or highlights or even just BTS of the day and then they’ll create like a huge list like featured vendors, or basically you just like the vendor Dream Team or something like the last highlight.
It would just be like a pink background or whatever your brand color is. And then they would just list all the vendors now I think that is like incredible. I’m, I’m clapping for the photographers that are including those tags. But why would a florist or a DJ like just reshare? That picture they might because they’re just looking for content. And they’re like, oh, great, I could just add to story. But I actually in a tiny corner will include the entire like vendor list so they can choose what they’re adding to their story or not like they it’s so easy for them to just click and add to story. I honestly added the one I would say cost how long I’ve been doing Instagram.
It’s been like 10 years now, I guess I don’t know. But like since I’ve been doing that. I have never had someone say oh my gosh, this is just too much like this is You’re annoying me Quianna. I know that’s a fear that you may be feeling but blasted. It’s their work too. And they don’t have to share it if they don’t want to. But you’re like queuing them up to do it right.
Let’s roll into number two, which is trends. I could blast out over a dozen trends right now. But honestly, next week, there’ll be dust like they’ll just be like scrolled away down the road. So I suggest the week of your next weddings, spend a good 15 to 30 minutes, just scrolling reels and tech talks to find trends and sounds that you would love to use. Make a note in your phone with the links to your audio so you can easily find it during the chaos of the wedding. I love asking my brides and couples on their last check in call before their wedding.
If they’re down to make any reels and tiktoks. Some of them are so into it and have their own ideas. And also some give me the eye roll and just say no, thank you. I love giving them a heads up and catching the vibe of their social media interest before the wedding. So I can read the room and never pressure anyone into doing anything that they think is ridiculous. Or I love spending just a little more time with those that truly value these trends and have so much fun creating them. If there’s an interest for your bride, or the couple, make sure that you add a little bit of buffer time for this and the timeline. Okay, sorry, I dip back into tips before the wedding, I just can’t help it.
When it comes to trends, I love transitions. I love capturing all these things and just like piecing them together, you could go back to like, let’s say there’s a trending audio, you could take a clip of your couple leaving the wedding like that you couldn’t have a video clip of them.
During the sparkler exit, you could have just a pan of the ceremony view. And then you clip up to a trending audio and add text over it or you add a key tip or idea why hacker something like this is the power of having that bank right.
So you don’t have to create these trends in the moment to be trendy. You have to have that content bank so you can pull those four trends that are coming up. Right. Does that make sense? All right, let’s roll into number three. Fun. How are you sharing these videos and BTS photos just for fun? Sometimes we get stuck in timeline jail.
I just made that up. And I think well, I have some behind the scenes clips from my wedding last fall, so I can’t post it anymore. Like why do we think that like after a wedding has already happened? Why do we just assume? Well, it’s done like it’s done. So like we can’t post about it anymore. No, baby. It’s called Marketing. Get creative with your content. Now that you have this huge bank, I love to see a splash of all of your couples dancing their first dance showcase all of the florals and trends that you have discovered during that wedding season. Or maybe highlight this is one of my favorites.
Highlight one wedding venue that you love and share four to five different couples getting married there. So will not be so cute. If there was a really cute spot for the first look. You had one couple exchanging a first look and then the next scene is a ceremony shot of a different couple. The next scene is like chaos like with the wedding party for family portraits or maybe a cute clip for cocktail hour. And then of course the reception span with a different couple and then sunset dreamy sunset kisses with an entirely different couple.
This is literally gold not only would this be great marketing tool for you, but also the one mean venue, they’re gonna want to share it. Like, it’s just the opportunity is are endless. And I just want to help you get there. Like I want to help you understand this concept that by just recording your days, especially wedding days, you can create marketing gold. And the best part is, is it’s free.
You’re literally just spending your time putting this together. Now that you’ve made it this far and you’re thinking, oh man, I don’t know about this because I totally forgot to capture behind the scenes and I literally have two photos that the florist text me with my butt taking photos of my couple and that’s all I got.
Okay, so like, I wanted to also include in this episode kind of a oh shoot situation where maybe you’ve made it this far, but you don’t actually have the behind the scenes stuff from your recent wedding. This is where the next challenge is to share your beautiful gallery images as sneak peeks. I know I’m a huge advocate for BTS.
But you can have a huge impact by pairing your professional photos with captions and texts to dig deeper into the story. Share your personality, highlight the vendors, showcase the venue, share sweet moments and help your clients and their guests relive the day. They’ll be forever grateful. And I just want to remind you, okay, like this is about your couple. Okay?
Sometimes I can be really pushy, like I mentioned before, like this big sister vibe, where I want you to do the most be the best add so much value and all this stuff can be really overwhelming and can be kind of like okay, well I’m going to just go take a nap now like this just sounds like way too much. But this literally is what has catapulted my business.
My business had gone from just being a hobby photographer, a girl that works at Trader Joe’s who takes pictures to a full fledge professional published an international wedding photographer like Well, that’s a lot of stuff to say. But I’m telling you those things, because it’s possible. None of like I could have done all that stuff, but nobody would have hired me.
Nobody would have invested in me if I didn’t do the groundwork, and post about it. Share it. I am a hustler. I’m a dreamer. And I know that that is in your heart as well. We just need other people to see it. Share it if you found this series helpful. And we’d love more education tips and inspiration for capturing more behind the scenes at your next wedding.
